In the past 45 years, the RIT has contributed to the development of human resources for TB control around the world. With financial assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Labor, international training courses in TB and HIV/AIDS control for developing countries have been conducted at RIT. These also serve as an opportunity to develop Japanese manpower in the fields of infectious disease control and international health.
Currently, the following training courses in TB control and a HIV/AIDS training course are conducted. In addition to Japanese lecturers, international resources are also provided through the WHO. Furthermore, various training manuals specifically in the area of laboratory management have been published. To date, 2,056 people from 97 countries have completed these training courses, and some of our graduates have later served as a Health Minister, Secretary of Health, Director General, Director of Disease Control, and Program Managers in each country, while others are working for international organizations such as the WHO.
